This week the contestants on TVSTARZ performed their own song choice. Dream Team member from the Philippines, Angelica Villamor Oquendo or better known as Angel amazed all three juries in the 8th week of TVSTARZ concert.
During Tuesday’s episode on 11 May, Angel from Manila, Philippines, performed Dayang Nurfaizah’s ‘Lelaki Teragung’.
She received praises from all juries, including singer-songwriter Amir Jahari, known for his fiery comments, who commented she did “a good job”, although she should improve on her dynamics.
Award-winning vocalist Ernie Zakri said Angel “sounded just like a Malay person singing this song”.
“Your voice is powerful,” added jury Yudhi Seriestha.
Angel’s performance earned her fourth place. This is her third consecutive week in the position.
“I’m nervous but really thankful I’m still part of TVSTARZ”, Angel said during an interview with TVS.
Angel first debuted on TVSTARZ as a “Challenger”, where her role was to grab a spot from other contestants called the “Dream Team” in the singing reality competition. For her debut performance, she sang Ikaw by Yeng Constantino.
The following week she sang Michael Jackson’s ‘Music & Me’, a song chosen for her by TVSTARZ vocal coach and former Miss World Malaysia, Dewi Liana Seriestha.
Angel, whose favourite Malaysian singer is Dayang Nurfaizah, said she struggled with the pronunciation of some words in the lyrics but received guidance from her Malaysian friends.
The vocal teacher shared she expects to be in the TVSTARZ finals.
Looks like luck is on her side as Angel gets to advance to the following week.
