He’s known for his cover songs of his favourite singer, Dato’ Sri Siti Nurhaliza.
Four years since his debut single “Bintang Jatuh”, Prima Andri Arifianto, or better known by his stage name Andrey Arief, has added another feather to his musical cap by joining Malaysia’s latest online reality programme, TVSTARZ.
TVSTARZ, which is the brainchild of CEO of Sarawak Media Group, Suhaimi Sulaiman, features six contestants called the ‘Dream Team” who compete with each other in an online singing competition on top of competing against a weekly mystery “challenger” who try to snatch a spot from the Dream Team.
Andrey has so far remained in the Top 3 ever since his debut as the first international challenger on TVSTARZ in the fourth episode by singing legend P Ramlee’s song ‘Malam Bulan Di Pagar Bintang’.
“I wish to show what I have, especially in music. I want to introduce to the Malaysian audience that there is a contestant from Indonesia who can sing and succeed,” he said in an online interview with TVS.
During Michael Jackson’s themed concert last Tuesday, Andrey, who is the only contestant from Indonesia, has secured the top place with his version of ‘Black or White’.
The father of two donned a black jacket and a pair of aviators to channel his inner King of Pop.
Vocal coach Yudhi Seriestha liked his performance.
Songstress Ernie Zakri said she really enjoyed Andrey’s performance, adding that being online is not a hindrance to entertainment if one is sincere in what he is doing.
“This week you really are the star,” commented singer-songwriter Amir Jahari.
The musical journey to TVSTARZ began years ago when he started singing in the dangdut genre. Some time around 2013 to 2014, he started making cover songs and posted them on his YouTube channel, catching the eyes of many Malaysian fans.
