BINTULU, April 17: Bintulu is set to generate 1,500 megawatts (MW) of electricity by 2028, utilising gas turbine cycles through the expansion of the Samalaju Industrial Park (SIP).
Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said this electrical power supply expansion will be commissioned in 2028 with the power plan implementation starting today.
“In the first phase, we will generate 1,000MW of electricity. For the second phase, we will add an additional 500 MW,” he said in his speech during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering organised by Bintulu Development Agency (BDA) here today.
Meanwhile, Abang Johari revealed that Petronas has fulfilled their responsibilities in increasing the gas production from 450 million to 1200 million standard cubic feet (MMscfd).
“We have also succeeded in increasing the amount of natural gas to be provided to Sarawak.
“This demonstrates that Petronas and other industry partners have fulfilled their responsibilities well,” he added.-TVS
