Manhunt launched for suspect in child sexual assault case

SRI AMAN, April 17: Police are on the lookout for a local man suspected of sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl.

Identified as Andrew Jarau, 38, the suspect is being pursued by authorities following a report received by Sri Aman police chief DSP Mathew Manggie at 6.43 pm on April 10.

According to Manggie, the incident occurred in an old cemetery area at Kampung Kubal in Betong, after which the suspect fled.

“We are actively pursuing leads to locate and apprehend Jarau, who is currently on the police’s wanted list,” he said this in a statement issued last night (Apr 16).

Background checks reveal that the suspect has three previous drug-related criminal records.

The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
