KUCHING, May 8: The Sarawak Malay Cultural Foundation Charitable Trust (AKYBMS), is currently trying to get international recognition for some of Sarawakâs Malay cultural heritage.
Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said this includes manuscripts and handwritten works published around 1876 to 1942.
âThrough collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, AKYBMS works to recognise and incorporate Sarawak Malayâs cultural heritage in the state heritage list and recognised as a world heritage site under the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO),â Tengah said.
He was speaking at the Samarindok Aidilfitri Ceremony organised by AKYBMS on Tuesday.
According to him, among the recommended works are the novel Hikayat Panglima Nikosa (1876), Syair Datu Marapati (1885), the Lawas and Limbang manuscripts, Hikayat Datuk Marapati (1932), the poem Tarsilah Cetera Datuk Gudam Dangan Temenggong Kadir (1942) and Banting state laws and history manuscript.
Commenting further, Tengah also announced that AKYBMS will be directly involved in the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2024 next June.
âGod willing, AKYBMS will organize a Malay Archipelago Ensemble group and take part in the RWMF on June 28, 2024,â he said.-TVS
