The late Datuk Mutang Tagal a trailblazer – Fadillah

KUCHING, May 10: The late Senate President, Datuk Mutang Tagal was a trailblazer and a notable icon for his community in his role, said Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof.

Fadillah described Tagal as a leader who made significant contributions to the country’s development, particularly for Sarawak.

“Sarawak mourns the loss of a distinguished leader and respected figure.

“Originating from Lawas, Sarawak, the late Senator Tagal was a trailblazer, being the first Orang Ulu appointed as Dewan Negara President,” he said in a statement on his Facebook page on Friday.

Fadillah also expressed his condolences to the family of the late Senator during this difficult time.

“May the families of the late Datuk Mutang Tagal find strength and solace in facing this profound loss.

“His service as a Member of Parliament for Bukit Mas, Sarawak, from 1982 to 1990, further exemplifies his dedication to public service and his community,” he added in the Facebook post.

Senate president Datuk Mutang Tagal, 69, passed away at the National Heart Institute (IJN) on Friday, May 10.

According to a statement from the Senate President’s Office, he had been undergoing treatment at IJN since returning from an official working visit to Azerbaijan on Monday, May 6.-TVS
