KUCHING, April 14: Sarawak is one of the top three states contributing more than half of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
According to Chief Economist of World Bank Malaysia, statistics on Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) showed that Sarawak contributed 9.75 percent, behind Selangor with 25.54 percent and Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur with 16.22 percent.
“More than half of Malaysian GDP is contributed from only three states, namely, Sarawak, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory,” explained Sanghi on X.
Sarawak has seen a surge of increase, recording RM146 billion of its GDP in 2023, marking a notable increase of four to five percent compared to the previous year, according to Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
Under the leadership of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, the state has achieved a revenue of RM13.3 billion in 2023.
This was guided by the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, positioning Sarawak on a trajectory of sustainable growth, driven by innovation and creativity, towards an economic resilience, shared prosperity and eco-friendly country.
PCDS 2030 focuses on sustainable green and renewable energy, innovation and technology as well as digital economy, towards realising Sarawak’s vision of becoming a high-income state by 2030. -TVS
